Mahatma Gandhi famously spoke of the need to be the change we wish to see in the world. As a graphic facilitator/recorder, I help groups move toward this goal by enabling them to first see the change they wish to be. I do this by creating a visual record of meetings as they unfold, combining words, images and icons to capture key ideas as they emerge, connect the dots into larger themes, and ultimately reveal the big picture - both figuratively and literally.
My entry into this field is a natural outgrowth of my earlier ‘selves’ as a graphic designer, art director, project manager and dialogue facilitator. As an artist, I know firsthand the power of imagery to stimulate fresh thinking and connect to our deepest feelings - and how critical it is to engage those feelings if we hope to effect transformative change. As a project manager, I’ve learned how to keep one eye on the big picture and the other on the details - a critical skill for a graphic facilitator. And as a dialogue facilitator, I’ve come to understand that the most important quality I bring to any discussion is being a first-rate listener!
I’ve done graphic facilitation, graphic recording and custom chartwork for a wide range of clients, including community groups, corporations, government agencies and educational institutions, in a wide variety of settings, from strategic planning meetings, dialogues and visioning sessions, to focus groups, workshops and conference presentations. I also offer workshops in basic graphic recording for those who would like to learn these skills for themselves. Whatever the setting, I bring to my work a keen listening ear, an exuberant sense of fun, and a heartfelt desire to help people become the change in the most enjoyable and creative ways possible.
